An Idea Come to Me
An off-beat solo show, exploring disconnection and loneliness, returns this Autumn.
The story oscillates around my uncle, Tony; a retired telecommunications test engineer, who never left home, was a full-time carer to my Grandpa and to my surprise, an aspiring science-fiction writer.
One day, Tony sent me an unsolicited email titled ‘An Idea Come To Me.’ He’d had a vision for something he called Space Dominoes, and suggested I ‘carry on with it.’ So I did. This piece is the story of what happened next, following the journey I embarked on to realise my uncle’s surreal idea. A journey into the heart of our relationship.
An Idea Come To Me is part epic science-fiction adventure and part direct-address storytelling. Stepping in and out of Tony’s odyssey, I make discoveries about us both as our ‘co-production’ reaches its crescendo. Each one pushing me closer to an uncomfortable truth; my deep-rooted fear that I’ll end up the same as him.
The script is currently being adapted for radio and discussions are ongoing with the BBC.
